Maternity Photography at Crescent Beach
There’s something special about photographing this season of life.
We recently had the opportunity to photograph a maternity session at Crescent Beach in Surrey, one of our favourite locations for relaxed, natural photography. With the beach, soft evening light and plenty of open space, it provided a beautiful backdrop without taking the attention away from what really mattered — the parents-to-be and this exciting chapter in their lives.
A Relaxed Maternity Session
One thing we want people to know about maternity photography is that you don't need to know how to pose.
Most people aren't used to standing in front of a camera, and that's completely fine. During the session, we offer simple direction when it's helpful — where to stand, what to do with your hands, where to look — while also leaving room for natural moments to happen.
Some of our favourite images come from the moments in between: walking together, laughing, talking or simply taking a moment to enjoy being together.
Why We Love Crescent Beach for Maternity Photos
Crescent Beach gives us a lot of variety within a relatively small area.
We can capture photographs with the water and sky in the background, use the beach and natural grasses for softer portraits, and take advantage of the warm evening light as the sun gets lower.
That variety works especially well for a shorter session because we can create several different looks without spending a lot of time moving between locations.
Capturing This Chapter
Pregnancy can sometimes feel like it lasts forever while you're in it, but it's also a chapter that passes surprisingly quickly.
Maternity photos are a chance to slow things down for a little while and document what life looked and felt like before everything changes again.
The goal isn't perfection. It's to create photographs that feel genuine and that you'll be happy to look back on years from now.
